How to Get from Here to There
Congress has become the American House of Lords. The United States needs a House of Commons to represent the interests of the other 99%.
How can we make this happen? Well, first, we need to have a credible process by which we can all collectively decide what we want. Traditionally, this would have been via representation, which over time would be corrupted by the powerful as a tool for their own end -- so we need a system which is highly resistant to such corruption.
The way to do that is, basically, to build a system without any of the authoritarian backdoors that our current system has:
- range voting instead of one-up-vote-per-voter-per-decision
- online direct democracy rather than elected representatives and districting
- structured written debate rather than in-person vocal debate
